Smaller than the others in the family, the Soprano uke is tuned to G C E A in the first octave of the treble clef.
It is the true jumping flea described by the Hawaiian word ukulele.
Portable, inexpensive and easy to get a head start .. no wonder ukes are sweeping the World.
Tuning can be a note lower with the Tenor but most often the same. It keeps playing ensemble easier.
As the size up from the concert, the resonance and presence is more like that of a guitar. Great in a band, great for busking ... have the three for a full house!
The largest and deepest of the family the Baritone has the tuning of the highest 4 strings of the guitar. It uses the same chord names although all of them use the same chord shapes.
Great for giving an ensemble depth and anchoring the sound.
Longer, wider, deeper means the Concert ukulele has a bit more resonance, and is usually tuned to the same G C E A of it's little Bro.
Depending on your style, lots of my adult pupils like the extra room on the fingerboard or buy into Soprano body, Concert neck like the Long Necks.

KALA KA SS solid spruce top
This is the first item listed in Ukes Uk and is highly recommended for it's great quality at a great price. Kala make fantastic ukes, strong reliable with tone and accuracy of pitch right across the fingerboard. The SS or solid spruce model has all the tone generated by a solid top with the depth of tone and swell of the mahogany back and sides. It’s not loud but it is clever and as I player I love its accuracy and delicacy in the quiet passages. I’ve stocked all the sizes in this range and always had super comments back from players who have adopted the KA SS.

KALA KA SSTU BP soprano travel uke with padded bag
This little travel uke is fitted with Aquila strings and despite the slim profile produces beautiful tone. The all solid construction allows great diversity of tone as well with surprising volume and poke when you want it. Spruce for the top generates lots of tone while the hard wood back and sides allow sustain and subtlety. They’re designed as TRAVEL UKES as they are so thin bodied, great for sliding into a suitcase or back pack. KALA KA FMS soprano
This great little soprano usually retails at £161. It’s an all solid wood instrument with a gorgeous figured back and sides made from spalted flame maple with a high gloss finish. As with all the KALA instruments it’s accurate across and up the neck with a sweet tone generated by Aquila white strings. It’s not a raucous, beast of a sound. It plays quiet passages with subtlety but in louder chord play maintains a presence against coarser ukes with less pedigree.

The aNueNue brand is fairly recent brand which has a big reputation for great construction and tone. This long neck soprano has the feel and room of a concert but the chirpy, jumping flea ukulele sound of the soprano. It hasa competent construction which will improve with age and is sweet and accurate from the first to last fret. The open pore finish is entirely in line with Hawaiian tradition and cannot disguise any blemishes or faults in the timber selected – I think it leads to a more mellow sound against the hard finished, gloss varnished ukuleles. KALA SSLWTU Tenor travel ukulele
Deemed too expensive to support production, they originally retailed at £300 plus, the KALA SSLWTU T is no longer supplied. I think it’s a cracker. Powerful enough to play alongside any ukes yet in front of a microphone it has exactly the right balance of tone and resonance to avoid feed back. The all solid body generates sweeping tones while allowing quiet delicate passages gentleness with presence.

Sound - This is a superb ukulele from a quality manufacturer. The koa top, sides and back give a sweet but well rounded tone; great warmth especially in the mid range with sparkling tops. I really like this uke for carrying melody with it’s accuracy in pitch right across and up the neck. Playing chords shows the fantastic balance of tones with punch and resolution as well as subtlety in the quiet passages. The cutaway allows play right up to the highest notes and the body and neck are well balanced in the grip, in short … FANTASTIC!

Hohner HC 03 three quarter size Nylon Strings
This Hohner HC03 is the ¾ version of the HC06. It has a full size neck but a more manageable sized body for short arms. They make an ideal student guitar with accurate intonation, pleasant tone and 'lively' feel. I always advise Nylon Strings for new players. It is a mark of respect that this is the only laminate top Classical guitar I will sell through Ukes UK. Laminate tops are made from several layers of wood bonded together which in most cases leaves the guitar sounding dull and without resonance but not with these Hohners. The HC03 and 06 make a great starting point for pupils and their parents’ wallet to begin learning and playing. The notes are completely accurate across and up the neck (intonation). The tuning keys are easy to turn but hold their grip on the string. The body and neck are well balanced to for holding the instrument across the knee or in true classical style like Segovia. Gadzooks Workshops - ukuleles in schools
Gadzooks it’s Ukes allows everyone to play ukulele, guitar and sing songs. From individuals to large groups Gadzooks gets people playing music together. Mark Ferraby will bring a class set of instruments for children to play. Using open tunings and easy arrangements of well-known songs all can contribute and achieve satisfying results. "All the children left the session buzzing with excitement" said Julie Burgess following Gadzooks it’s Ukes at Irchester Primary School, Northamptonshire. Following his appearance on BBC Radio Leicester in the second half of January Mark has received many invitations to visit schools in the east Midlands with his blend of fun and easy charm. Formerly known as String Up Sing Up my sessions have run successfully during curriculum time, Old People's Centres, family work, Youth Centres, Play Camps, and Extended Schools timetable. Recently I have been active in The Corby Ukulele Project developing community links through building and playing 1001 ukuleles and teaching the largest Uke lesson in history.

Delivery for sopranos at less than 60cm is by Royal Mail Special Delivery, larger ukes by Parcel Post and guitars by courier. If you'd like to arrange an alternative shipping address please state although I usually require a signature upon receipt of packet. Mainland Britain prices for carriage quoted, I've not excluded Highlands and Islands, I have had some lovely customers from there, but please ask for a quote for carriage to any non - mainland destinations.
Full refund given if item not as described or arrives in substandard condition.
Item must be returned within 7 days of delivery, unused, with packaging intact.
Buyer pays all delivery and return costs, the refund will be for the purchase price only.
If you're a left-handed player feel free to ask advice, most instruments are specific handed, but often can be changed for vey little.
